Adult Inpatient Programs

Stabilizing Crisis. Restoring Balance.

At Knoxville Center for Behavioral Medicine, our adult inpatient psychiatric programs provide acute, short‑term mental health treatment for individuals experiencing serious emotional or behavioral health crises. Our inpatient units offer a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment where patients receive comprehensive care focused on stabilization, healing, and recovery.  All inpatient services are delivered by an experienced, multidisciplinary clinical team using evidence‑based, trauma‑informed, patient‑centered care.

Adult Inpatient Psychiatric Program – Hope Unit

The Hope Unit provides acute inpatient psychiatric care for adults age 18 and older who are medically cleared and in need of immediate stabilization. This program is designed to support individuals experiencing severe mental health symptoms that interfere with daily functioning or personal safety.

We treat a wide range of psychiatric conditions, including:

  • Major depressive disorder
  • Suicidal ideation
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Post‑traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Psychosis
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Personality disorders

Each patient receives an individualized treatment plan developed by an interdisciplinary team of psychiatrists, nurses, therapists, and case managers. Treatment focuses on symptom stabilization, medication management, therapeutic engagement, and discharge planning to support continued recovery.

Co‑Occurring Disorders Program – Journey Unit

The Journey Unit is a specialized dual‑diagnosis inpatient program for adults with a primary psychiatric diagnosis and a co‑occurring substance use disorder. This program recognizes the complex relationship between mental health and substance use and addresses both conditions simultaneously.

Key components of the Journey Unit include:

  • 24/7 medical and psychiatric supervision
  • Individual and group therapy
  • Psychiatric medication management, including medication‑assisted treatment (MAT) when appropriate
  • Relapse prevention planning
  • Comprehensive discharge and aftercare coordination

Our integrated approach focuses on treating the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—through compassionate, coordinated, trauma‑informed care designed to support long‑term recovery.

Geriatric Inpatient Psychiatric Program – Serenity Unit

The Serenity Unit provides acute inpatient psychiatric care for senior adults who are medically stable and able to perform activities of daily living (ADLs). This program is tailored to address the unique mental health needs of older adults in a respectful, calming, and supportive environment.

We specialize in treating:

  • Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia
  • Late‑life depression
  • Delirium and psychosis
  • Behavioral disturbances related to memory loss

Our geriatric‑trained clinical staff delivers age‑appropriate psychiatric care focused on safety, dignity, symptom management, and improved quality of life—while also supporting families and caregivers throughout treatment.
